ah ok. So, Lana Del Rey herself isn't super problematic in the usual sense of saying something that she should be cancelled for but from what I know, over the years her songs have been mostly used to romanticise abusive relationships especially the "weak fragile girl x overpossessive domineering guy" dynamic and some toxic tropes like anxious attachment exhibited by women towards their partners. I've seen so many fan edits of awful tropes in movies and tv shows with "summertime sadness" playing in the background. On social media, a while back (dunno if this is still the case), girls would have her songs on while doing the pretty crying thing on camera to appeal to men who like "broken women"...it's a whole thing.
Some people say her music is by nature toxic and others say that it isn't, toxic girlies have just co-opted it
I wonder if this story is like sadness porn. You know how some girlies put on Lana del Rey music and romanticise toxicity and all that? I haven't fully fleshed out my opinion on the topic but reading this feels off especially with the gorgeous art, awful title, garbage ML, weak MC who shows a glimpse of strength only to crumble later on and for her breakdown to be witnessed by ML who gets a hard on from seeing her miserable.....all of it feels disgusting.
I just hope they no teen reads this and thinks this shit is romantic. Others might say I'm being dramatic but you'd be surprised at how our views are shaped during our formative years by what we consume. I knew many young girls, now adult women, who are struggling in their relationships and still have views formed by their Wattpad reading years
