ty for this, i was literally js thinking abt it yesterday. my best friend js turned 19 & is dating a guy who’s pushing 30. ive tried telling her how weird that is, but she brushes it off like she’s suddenly so mature & grown js cus she graduated high school. like… girl, u js got out of high school. he’s nearly a decade older than you. ur both in completely diff stages of life. she won’t listen to me anymore, so ive kinda stopped caring, but it still bugs me.
i don’t have an issue w age gaps in fiction as long as everything is legal & consensual. but even then, it’s not always abt the age gap itself, it’s abt when the people involved met & how long one of them has known the other. if the older person knew the younger one before they turned 18? that’s when it crosses into something rlly uncomfortable for me. y would u want to date someone u basically watched grow up? that’s not romantic, it’s creepy.
in general, i find it strange when someone over the age of, say, 24, dates someone who’s 18 or 19. sure, it’s legal, but the maturity & life experience gap is massive. 18 & 19 literally still have teen in the number. most ppl that age r either still in high school or just recently graduated.

LMAO This topic is just above someone asking for an age gap (professor X student) recommendations xD
Anyway for age gap I don't mind some of them in fiction since I don't really bother knowing their age (since some of the art style make them look like the same age) but if they said their age in the story like a 20+ years apart that makes me weird reading it
In irl I don't mind if a 23 year old date a 30 year old but if it's 19-22 that's a NO they just come of age so they're still a minor. And there's someone who made a topic about a highschool and college dating but they're only 1-2(?) year apart and for me that's alright as long as they have their priority right

I'm 18, and I won't date anyone younger than me, either. (Actually, I won't date anyone) But there are many other more concerning things like a 19-year-old dating 13 or something like that. 2 year age gap between two minors is acceptable. (It shouldn't be more than that and 18 is just barely an adult)
Topic: Age gaps in fictional/real life.
Now, to start this off I think age gaps are weird all together. Fiction or not, but I do have different tolerance levels for them depending if they are in a book or actual real life.
For example, a 20 year old dating a 40 year old. Bitch that's weird. He's literally old enough to be your daddy. And then they have the nerve to blame it on daddy issues. And it's understandable to a point but not having a dad does NOT mean you need to fuck the first old man you see.
That being said, if it's fictional I have basically the same thoughts on it. More than five years apart is weird for me when it comes to a book. But real life, it's three and even then I feel like it's pushing it.
Now I do have situations I won't be counting, a 20 year old being with some dying 80 year old to get that bank. Could be hypocritical of me, but hey, if he's going to die someone deserves the bag.
P.s(a 16 year old dating a 18 year old is weird, and not just bc one is a legal adult.)
