I am about to drop this because of the same reason. I understand what Penelope is going through and don't blame the system anymore when she had so much help but chose to ignore it. The only reason I'm staying is because of Callisto.

not sure what help you're talking about here but honestly I don't see her fault here. She thought she had to survive in the game, raise favorability of the love interests, get an ending and only thus she could leave the game and go back to her real world. That's exactly what she did. She chose the easy option, Eclise (if I'm not wrong about his name). But even when she did everything to raise the favorability and raised it to 100%, it backfired. He became obsessed insane psyco and now even brainwashed by Yvonne. So her hope of being able to get out of this using Eclis is now gone. And as for Callisto, he may have feelings for Penelope but he himself isn't aware of that atp cause he proposed a contractual marriage which doesn't help her at all cause she needs love, the raise in favorability meter, not a marriage right. And as for the other love interests, one is her brother who's is also a horrible brainwashed bitch and the Marquis who I think is too suspicious of her to actually fall in love. Which yeah doesn't really leave her in a good place
And finally she's now up against Yvonne who is not even a human, she's brainwashing people left and right. To be fair Penelope doesn't even have much she can do right now. Yvonne is literally after her and she doesn't even know what to do. So yeah I'd also hate to be in her position. That's why I don't think she's a pathetic mc. It's just that the game is fucked her, not giving her much options or helpful informations to get out of this mess. She's literally alone in that world just trying to survive
I hope they make an MC that just beat the shit out of everyone in a period story this MC is so pathetic when can we have a psychopath MC that just smashes the head of those who pisses them off
