First of all MC is really great. Like, did we just collectively forget that bro was out here worrying about exam grades and highschool before being dropped in all that ? Bro's solving diplomatic conflicts at 18 with no prior counselling. And I'm talking back-to-back-to-back :
Travelling across countries, juggling learning about different cultures, realities, without even knowing how to read or wield magic properly.
He didn't catch a break, and you cannot tell me he's been there for more than four months.
Personality-wise he's really good with people and strives to constantly improve. When people tell him, "This is something you're doing wrong", Instead of feeling offended or -rightfully- reminding people he comes from a VASTLY different world with different ethics, (I'm looking at you Dyne), he assesses the comment, draws the necessary conclusion to learn from it and adapts. I'm talking, actively taking measures to change. Not just "okay" and move on. It's not a run-of-the-mill quality every teenager possesses.
Some might argue that plot armor loves his *ss and that it was always other pple ultimately solving pbs, but tbh, he's never sitting on his *ss and waiting for stuff to happen. Even when he feels/is helpless, he's constantly thinking about ways to ease the problem-solving process.
It came as a pleasing surprise for me because for this type of plot I was preparing for two kinds of MCs :
-The Rice cake : "I don't want to change my Earth-values because they're ultimately the best and watch as plot armor will make me right at the end"
-The wimpy sour-candy : "I was thrust in it against my will and it's going to be everyone's problem. Also, my tears are my biggest weapon."
But due to Kouichi being an absolute G, I never felt like he was some spineless feel-good-MC.Yes he relies strongly on his sense of what's right and his values, but he also changes to accomodate his new reality many times. Yes he might have the classic self-destructive/deprecating tendencies but he's learning to be selfish from time to time for his own and other's good.
TLDR : Kouichi is amazing because on top of being successful after transmigrating into political messes and other BS he is served at 18, his personality makes him strive towards becoming better every time through not just words, but action as well.
Can we take a moment to appreciate MC ?
