I don't know much on Greek mythology so forgive me if I'm wrong, but I remember hearing something about how Sisyphus eventually finds happiness and fulfillment from his repetitively futile task of eternally rolling a boulder. I think it's an interesting parallel to how Guwon is convinced that what he is doing is morally correct...
okay so I've seen a lot of people in the comments complain and say he's a red flag (duh. but i will get into that more) so i would just like to share my thoughts as well!!
(also no hate to anyone!! i agree that this is pretty fucked up and i by no means want to excuse guwons behavior at all. what he did/does is wrong period.)
what people don't seem to take into consideration is the literal title of this story. the title is obviously based on greek mythology and the character "Sisyphus". and if you know a little bit about greek mythology the name alone says A LOT!
for those not too familiar or not wanting to look it up themselves so basically:
Sisyphus was a cunning king who revealed to the river god Asopus(Aegina's father) that Zeus had abducted Aegina(a nymph and his daughter) which unraveled Zeus's wrath so he(Zeus) ordered Thanatos(the god of death) to take and chain Sisyphus in tartarus(a part of hell). however Sisyphus tricked Thanatos and trapped him in the chains instead, keeping him locked away unable to do his duties as the god of death and causing a lot of trouble for earth, the people and the gods.
i could go into more detail but that would take too long so to summon it up more: Ares(god of war) came to Thanatos's rescue, freeing him, then handing Sisyphus over to him which a little later results in the most known part of his story, his punishment. he was punished to push a boulder up a hill for eternity but everytime he would near the top, the boulder would roll down to the bottom again, repeating eternally.
so basically what I'm getting at is that, if this story is really referencing the story of Sisyphus, (plus what we've seen so far) this is only just getting started and we'll possibly see a lot more fucked up stuff. I'm ESPECIALLY suspicious about how guwon basically built this town himself, selecting the people with "my town needs a doctor" which references the king Sisyphus who also built a kingdom by himself.
also this is completely just a hunch but from the beginning i started reading this and the events that took place, with MC's weird blackouts and behavior, my initial thoughts were that MC might be based on Thanatos. which also makes me way more worried given that Sisyphus trapped Thanatos in the myth to escape his own punishment.
tbh I've completely lost what I'm trying to explain here i hope some of you understand what I'm getting at
