I think the pacing coincides with what's happening and puts you on edge as we both know what the other side doesn't but at the same time theres still a mystery to the actual plans of Karas and the secrets of the council. Also we wonder how Abel will navigate this politics this time in a more dangerous position.
i dont remember the novel just changing scenes consecutively, in fact it was more on focusing on one scene to the other
