see you get itt!! I genuinely get so sad and frustrated when I see people blaming Penelope. Of course she is a flawed character, no one is perfect. Especially after you go through the things she has and is still going through, no one can remain sane but she still hasn't lost it at least. That's literally a whole different world, a game where she dies, she has no one there, literally no one to rely on. Callisto loves her I know but she doesn't know that much yet and given the situation she's in rn, thinking about rosy beautiful love is a luxury because she saw how one li has already betrayed her. Also she's up against Yvonne, a being that's isn't even a human. She doesn't know what to do to get rid of her to survive cause that psycho is brainwashing everybody left and right. She's literally working alone, with no one to even say something encouraging. I'd probably go batshit and slash everyone with a sword and get executed cause TF
You're so right and we're spinning hand in hand in a middle of a meadow rn in my head btw. Her decision to leave everyone seems extremely reasonable to me, because if she can't predict what they'll do due to Yvonne, then it'd be like spending time with a ticking time bomb.
In fact, it makes perfect sense for her to leave *now*. She couldn't before, because she couldn't know the effects of not reaching 100 before the coming of age ceremony, but now she has nothing holding her back.

People just act like she has hundreds of options but in reality she doesn't even have a single person she can sit down and share her thoughts with. That alone is enough to make the world a living hell for her. Eclis was like a ray of hope for her salvation but that failed, her family believing Yvonne over her is more plausible cause first of all brainwashing, second of all she's the actual daughter (that's what they know rn). Eclis is a lost cause now, her brother shouldn't be considered as a li, the marquis helps her but that surely isn't love and Callisto offered her a marriage of convenience and said he doesn't love her (he does but he doesn't realize ik but she needs concrete affirmation rn). So ofc she would be hopeless about them too. My girl is literally so brave to be going through all of these I swear. Can't stand any Penelope slander cause that game is literally a horror, survival genre
Oh and also!!! I feel like portraying Penelope leaving the others behind with Yvonne like she's putting them in harm's way is unfair. Yvonne doesn't want to hurt the others, she just wants Penelope to suffer. She only brainwashes to get the other's to hurt Penelope.
If anything, I feel like it's obvious from Penelope's thoughts, that she believes they'll live the life of the og novel if she leaves.
Yeah exactly. And even if she doesn't care about what happens to others, we can't really blame her for it. Because does she really have any fond memory of them? She's still being generous enough to the duke by letting him know about that teacup thing. NO ONE GETS HER
I feel like everyone forgets that every one of the MLS had broken her trust at some point. I actually think it's incredible that Penelope cares for her own well-being first and I think she should be more selfish than she is.
Trusting the other characters not to betray her, when they've already broken her trust before and now can be magic manipulated into whatever, is an unreasonable demand to have of her.
Like isn't the entire premise based off the fact that no one ever loved her and that's what will kill her?? What kind of resolution would it be for the story, if loving others was what she needed to do. I'm sure she already loved her family in her previous life, before she understood they'll never love her back. I'm sure og Penelope loved her family dearly, despite it all.
I feel like the other characters are represented fairly, Winter is never framed as being unreasonable. But in a story about Penelope dying if she isn't loved, perhaps reasonable people will stand in her way!
TLDR: Penelope is right about everything and should be more selfish than she is, and everyone should be much kinder to her and you don't get her like I do
