The male lead is secondary in this story, it’s actually about the platonic/familial love between Emi and Remilia. Emi will always be number one to Remilia, as her literal saviour, the demon king can only be in second place. So why agree to the demon kings affection? Because he truly loved the most important part of our mc, which was her embodying Emi (keeping Emi’s memory alive was worth more than living as herself). He loved Emi’s values and kindness, and that made the Mc love him. Add that to his ability to see through lies and he can become a watch dog so she never looses sight of those ethics and morals. A chain (or truth detector) tying her to her beloved Emi’s love and kindness. He gives her a reason to continue being good, living as Emi, even after the mcs revenge is over.
