I mean the characters in novel thinks that K is using Y when we, readers, absolutely know that K loves Y, and Y loves K. If you're going to read the novel, you can totally see that K is completely devoted and obsess of Y, same as Y.
The reason I could think is his reputation. Since he is known to be womanizer, dangerous, manipulative, many more name calling title. Commoners thought badly of nobles, and nobles thought badly of K.
