The knight doesn’t think he’s monstrous just bc his skin is dark…. We don’t see his face we just see his eyes and we see obvious scaring. He is probably disfigured due to the healing and immortality abilities that were removed from the curse being lifted. Though the trope light and dark portrayed in that way (white/blonde:dark-skinned/brunette) is tired and personally I don’t like it, but this story’s theme is more on beauty is in the eye of beholder. He misses what he lost and want to go back but never can he has to live with the reminder of his curse and how it rotted his body. I think the authors crime is more being tone deaf

I don't think they made his skin dark. It's literally the blackness of the curse.

And no, his body heals so there shouldn't be ANY scarring at ALL. The only part that will scar is the blood-mana pact that required the cut on his palm. Bcz that's AFTER the immortality & self-healing curse had worn off.

He does have scars. We see them when he’s kissing the mage in chapter 5. all the way down to his neck.

Reviewed the chapter. Don't see any scars

But scars should not appear as he is healed back to normal form. Not the healing that takes place for an individual without self-healing powers. He said when his body parts that gets cut off will grow back again.

And presumably any scars he had should have been from battles prior to curse.... Since, presumably he curse starts healing once the curse takes hold, so previous injuries may or may not have been/able to be healed into a completely unblemished person.

Yea probably what I’m perceiving as scaring could be the “rusted” texture of his skin from the effects of the curse after the fact. They appear as scratches all over his body. Or even if they are from before the curse it could be that since he’s had this curse for so long he chose to view himself before the curse in his prime, undamaged face, and associates the deformities as a result of the curse rather than before.

I'm surprised he's worried about how his face looks. I think it's just symbolic of how views himself over time. They did say the curse drives one crazy because one can never grow old and die/can't be killed off. He's been in that body for over a century. And he can't leave that forsaken place either. And the curse forces him to kill innocent (presumably) ppl who passes through. So a lot of mental scarring, I would assume. Other than being visually disfigured.
