For me, Guwon is a blank slate. He learns from his environment and I think one of the main causes he turned out like that, it's because of the people around him.
If he's not a zombie, I think he's one of the lab rats for experiment to find the cure. I just hope the people won't be the reason why teach and Guwons relationship will turn bad
