Probably bcs most people only see Guide n Esper as tools n weapons. We see how the mc talks about it where like back then children literally getting experiment constantly to the point that they're literally traumatized. If I were in their shoes I'll be suspicious too. Like why now? Suddenly the doctor becomes nice n really care for me when all this time they treat me like shit

We can really sympathise with mc now bcs he's genuinely kind n tried to help these people. To the point that Esper called him "people pleaser" when he's actually not, bcs he really sympathise with them n their situations. But for people who constantly face with prejudice, fear, n constantly being seen as not a human being, mc's kindness n care feels really foreign to them. They can't understand why does mc don't treat them like others did, bcs they believe he has hidden intentions behind his care
