Oooh, I didn't notice it at first, but all the things that interest him were gift someone received! A pen from her father, a wedding ring, the harmonica his friend got from his dad, a lighter from his son and a watch her received from his kids. Not only are they gifts, they're well loved and extremely sentimental. He couldn't have just bought them from a store, they didn't have that attachment. It makes me wonder why he thinks the mc shines? It seems she's universally disliked, even by her own family. It reminds me of E.A.Poe's Berenice, with the complete inescapable obsession with random objects.
Anyway this is turning out to be a really good psychological thriller so...you know....maybe treat it as such? This isn't a manhwa that failed at being a romance, it never existed to make people feel warm and fuzzy. It's about a serial killer, who is charming, but by no means rational, sympathetic or kind. Not only is it unfair to critique the story for not being a romance, you're setting yourself up for disappointment too! The lawyer will not become any kinder and the protagonist won't save him. If anything, I'd bet she's going to turn out rather cruel too, though in a protective way rather than a obsessive way.
