Profundis is not for everyone and unfortunately neither the genre nor the tags mirror this. It's an apocalypse story and people in the apocalypse tend to be abnormal. Also, the essence of the esper-guide relationship was never love but give and take unless you want everyone, including yourself, to be killed by monsters. I think the author pictured the inhuman abnormality in the apocalypse really well. Yes, including the rape, humiliation, devastation etc. Why would they care of anyone when they see death everyday and could get killed in the next minute? Also, when they finally succeeded, the struggle to become normal was pictured well too. So the horror of the apocalypse and the happiness in the peace goes hand in hand in this story and they together form a kind of equilibrium. The point is if you cannot take these kind of stories, just ignore them, it's better for everyone.
