BL = yaoi
BL just means Boys' Love and it's the general catch-all term for both yaoi and shounen-ai.
Yaoi = more graphic sexual scenes between males
Shounen-ai = more emotional based love between males that usually doesn't have sex or if it does it takes place off screen and isn't shown in any graphic detail
Smut = more sex than plot
