Fr, everytime someone online talks about this work, they ALWAYS just include how ml ruined the story by being boring when i genuinely don't understand what they want him to do. Pisses me off so bad, we finally get a good ml for OI story and then people get mad about him having 'no personality'
With Helena too, we finally don't get the 'ogfl always evil' trope and actually get a backstory and understand her actions and even then people complain.
People hate seeing good works istg

Honestly its kind of sad. Because people are so used to reading trash, their standards have also become trash. Now they run to defend their poorly written characters. As soon as they see any form of depth in a character its too difficult for them to comprehend, so they complain.
‘Why is the author thinking so hard. I cant understand why they would make the character act like that. Where are the dramatized reactions im used to?? This is so boring.’
Feels like y'all are reading with your eyes closed or something. Ofc he'd be 'bland', he's literally a character that has no fkin background and no royal title whatsoever. Like tf you want bro to do, suddenly fight some royals, go out of his way to risk his life for no reason or something. He doesn't have that privilege to do what the cold duke from other works do.
He literally had no name and to go from that to literally being THE BEST ml isn't bland in the slightest. Also he isn't a mindless robot, he doesn't have as much authority as the royals do, but even during his first introduction, we can see how he returns the earring just cause he knows involving with royals is never good. In between, i will agree he doesn't have much screen time but doesn't mean he's bland, it's not a story focused around him. There's also this part where Eris is sick and he comforts her, while staying in his zone cause like i said, he's not a royal figure, he can't step out of his way.
In the side stories we are made aware of his emotions more and how he can't act on it cause he doesn't have the Authority.
And the final fkin arc where he finally goes out of his way to wish for something that's literally unknown if it could be possible.
I'm yapping this much cause this is my favourite work and the hate Anakin and Helena gets is crazy, one for being 'bland' or having 'no personality' and the other for 'being annoying' or whatever. Y'all NEED to reread the work istg, y'all clearly don't like well written characters
