Exactlyyy she asha was such a wasted potential bc of how intriguing her character is only to be nerfed with denying charlisle's feelings The fact that they could've milked so many romance tropes out of Ashas past not knowing how to redirect herself and asses her feelings PROPERLY because she spent her whole life fighting in a war while struggling to keep her people alive is so
Please read with caution if you really like the romance part of the manhwa because I do not like it. This is a pretty long read so buckle up
The 1st chapter really hooked me in the storyline because I could really smell the slow burn from a mile away and I'm a sucker for it. However, as the story progresses, I've noticed how war focused the manhwa was. Now don't get me wrong, even if the manhwa was war focused I still would've read it because I like a good read. BUT the story just kept on dragging the storyline to the point the romantic aspect of the story is just gone and feels unatural. I deeply feel appalled on how the manhwa would insert "romantic scenes" in the storyline just to make the readers feel the thrill of romance but it just back fires because it feels weird. Sometimes I would read the "romantic scenes" and catch myself thinking "bro what? where'd that come from" It really upsets me how there are many chances and situations where the couple could've had romantic progress but instead of milking content out of it, it's left floating in the air, disregarded and hopped on to the next 'crucial' part of the story. Take for example the blessing of fertility Gabriel was going to do. Like wdym we only saw one scene of them being intimate with eachother and after that the main couple never spoke of it again. They could've atleast showed us more because it helps the readers understand the type of characters the couple are. Imagine having to act intimate with your contract wife and not speaking about it again for the following days of the week, fully aware that you had to do it atleast 2-3 times a week? It's buns and trash. I get the idea, I truly do. But the execution and the writing makes it so bad that I had to crash out 3 times while reading the manhwa. But the feeling of obligation that I had to finish the manhwa was much more.
And don't even get me started on the misunderstanding arc. Because wdym misunderstanding arc? THE STORYLINE IS ABOUT THE COUPLE MISUNDERSTANDING EACHOTHER AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY but since I have to be frank, I'm talking about the sudden attack of the barbarians inside the pervas mansion. You know the point where Asha almost on the verge of death? Yeah that part. Remember what happened before that incident? Yeah, that was their misunderstanding arc. I kid you not I could ramble about how this manhwa is buns and yall would hate me for it. But anyway, back to the topic. When Charlisle knew pervas was in danger, I knew that he would go to pervas in an instant and he did. But I couldn't understand why he would since he didn't have that many monologues trying to sort his feelings our for asha. This whole time he was focused on getting reinstated as the crown Prince again without properly assessing how he feels towards their marriage. Same goes with asha. She's a strong female lead but I would've preferred if there wasn't any romance in this manhwa at all.
Towards the end of the manhwa, it just felt rushed and unreal to have asha and charlisle come in terms with their relationship. It was long and dreadful and I endured it. I cannot say it felt good reading their confession because it honestly was so trash. The character depth was so shallow I couldn't empathise on the romance portion.
All in all, setting the romantic aspect of the manhwa aside, it's still trash. Storyline is mediocre and the character writing sucks. I would never in my whole life would ever recommend this manhwa unless you want to rip out your face while reading the whole thing and its not in a good way.
