I don't think he was that annoying tbh and he took rejection pretty well
I was more annoyed at the trope that he was put in rather than his character itself
I really can't stand love triangles or just when the third guys comes in just to be there even though it's obvious that the main couple is going to end up together so the stakes are nonexistent
