This is exactly why this novel is so good. Everyone pays their dues. Even if you come to come to love them after hating them, fate still takes its pound of flesh. So bittersweet. why did i forget for a second that Annette was a musician who lived for music. and that one of the things Heiner was afraid of isn't just his disability burdening Annette in their day to day life
