why did i forget for a second that Annette was a musician who lived for music. and that one of the things Heiner was afraid of isn't just his disability burdening Annette in their day to day life
but also the fact that if it was irreversible, from his POV, she won't be able to experience the joy of sharing something so intrinsic to her existence? damn. ah, fuck.

    Exactly how I felt reading ch 74 - 75. It must be painful for him to see but not hear the music she composes and plays salt on my wounds

    This is exactly why this novel is so good. Everyone pays their dues. Even if you come to come to love them after hating them, fate still takes its pound of flesh. So bittersweet. But I think they've been through too much together for something like that to matter, her music will live on in his mind. I mean Beethoven was deaf! One of greatest composers of all time. They'll find a way.
