"The Murder Castle" was the work of H.H. Holmes, America's first documented serial killer. He operated out of Chicago in the late 19th and early 20th century during the Columbian World Exhibition. Holmes commissioned the hotel in the 1890s (lines up with this time period), which was constantly under construction. The result was a confusing and backwards layout that contained many hidden rooms and a lower level meant for hiding and disposing of corpses.
Reminds me of that one hotel irl where there was a big fair promotion in the city so lots of ppl went to go visit but the owner had secret rooms where he would start killing the guest off but nobody noticed because there was so many visitors coming in.
