While this is true to some extent, personally from my own pov I stiil think Carcel was in the wrong for sleeping with other women while knowing full well the only reason he did so was for Ines to pay attention to him. If the only thing he did was sleep around, then that from my own pov, wouldn't have been an issue, but the fact that he did it only for attention is what pmo. I mean damn, you can literally do anything else for attention why does it have it be cheating?
Sleeping around is not the issue, sleeping around while knowing full well the only reason you do so is to get your partner's attention is just dumb to me.
Carcel initially slept with a girl because he was hurt by Ines’s rejection. He was a teenage boy who acted irresponsibly. Afterwards, Carcel moved on. He realized intuitively that Ines did not care about him. It’s the same way his mother told Ines quite frankly that Ines never cared about her son and Ines couldn’t refute this fact. Then Carcel went to the military academy and basically lived his life separate from Ines. Sleeping with others became about relieving stress and/or rebeling against authority. As the author of the novel points out, Carcel only slept with others when he visited Mendoza where the pressure of expectation from the imperial family and the existence of his indifferent ‘fiancée-in-name-only’ resided. In Calztela where he spent 9 months of the year, he lived a strictly mundane and celibate life.
In terms of modern concept of consent, Carcel is the only character in this novel who practiced full consent. The one time he did something without consent, Ines slapped him and he accepted the punishment willingly. Other than that one time, he is the only character who upholds and adheres to clear consent and those noble ladies were the ones to pursue him so they knew where they stood. Notice no woman whom he had any past dealing with ever appeared to create problems for him after marriage. Why is that? He kept strict boundaries with them. Instead, all the trouble that appears since he married stem from both of the men Ines dealt with in the past and has nothing to do with Carcel and his past.
While I do agree with all the points made, from my own pov, I found Carcel sleeping with other women just so he can get Ines' attention weird and wrong. However, I do understand that he was still immature and young at the time so it makes sense and is not that big of a deal. Honestly no one should care about him sleeping around before marriage since no official vows had been made, however what I'm questioning in particular here is not the act but the intention. One's response to being turned down shouldn't be sleeping around just for attention(to get over the person or to lessen the heartbreak however, is not an issue).I repeat I'm condemning the intention and not the act.
Tho I also feel like the issue is being inflated and pple are just overexaggerating, Carcel is still one of the best green flags rn and what he did is not even close to the shit these red flags put our fl's through ╥﹏╥ (Again I do not hate Carcel and I think he's one of the best characters rn so plz don't come for me).
Fair enough but I should also point out that the manhwa doesn’t even get inside of Carcel’s head so I can understand why manhwa readers dismiss his hurt as frivolous but are we being real? In modern times, there are teenagers who are hurt, get drunk and sleep with someone? In fact, it doesn’t even have to be a teenager. Adults do this too.
For me, personally, being a loser is just as bad. Why should anyone stay hung up on someone who doesn’t give a damn about them? That’s a loser right there. What readers who have a problem with Carcel living his life are suggesting is he cling to a girl who did not care even a tiny bit about him and basically waste 7 years of his youth begging for her love like a loser. What a waste of life. Meanwhile, she’s still hung up on her past with another man between the age of 16 to 20. Life is far too short to waste it pining for someone who doesn’t care about the rejected person. The engagement was always an agreement between the two families and something that Ines chose to keep for the expressed purpose of divorce. Otherwise, she would’ve undoubtedly gotten rid of Carcel because she didn’t care about him at all.
As I said, my main issue is not that he's sleeping around, its that he did most of it primarily for attention. Sleeping around to get over being rejected is not in any way an issue. Moreover I too agree that Carcel sticking around Ines while she kept on rejecting him would just be dumb and I fully support him seeking more for himself since his relationship with Ines at the time was going nowhere.
The primary reason was not only her rejection. The first time it was from her rejection then afterwards it became a relief from the stress of obligation from the imperial family and pressure of the engagement. Author even highlighted this fact in her questions and answers with fans. She also pointed out that fortunately for Carcel, the fact that he was estranged from Ines saved his life because Oscar no longer saw him as a threat. Notice as soon as the rumors recently spread to Mendoza that Carcel is crazy about his wife, the assassination attempts began. So, in a way, Carcel unwittingly protected his life that Ines took for granted would always be safe. Only now she found out that her careless choice meant a 6 year old boy was being physically abused and tormented.

anyone who reads novels set in this time period knows that arranged marriages are typically business driven and loveless particularly if arranged when they were children, and i fear that's common sense. even despite that, and ines using him (hoping he cheats!) under that context, carcel cares for ines and sleeps with other women only for her attention. if anything he did wrong by the women he slept with rather than ines. furthermore he only did this because his affection was clearly unreciprocated and this is shown in the chibi chap 97. he is a good man and i wont stand for this slander i love him too much lmao.
