First I want to address the thing you said about the places we have been introduce so far, I think this story is like suppost to stay in the school because in my opinion I this the story is about like the school life that atleast our Mc is having and him just trying to get close with ML??
also I think this story is suppost to be a slowburn which ik isn't for everyone I have just gotten into slowburn so I kinda get what you mean by the slow pacing
The only thing I don't really get is the thing you said about empty characters, it can be just a me thing but in my opinion they seem fine and it's just that the characters aren't that open about their feelings I really don't know
I wanted to make sure that have you read omega complex? cause if you haven't maybe reading that will help read this cause this story is like a side story for the second ml in omega complex

and yes i’ve read the main story some times ago, though i didn’t really like it. i think i just don’t like the author, or at least this adaptation of the novels lol
and for the « empty characters » part, even if they have depth and well written emotions stuff like that i feel like they still feel empty kinda, but its subjective so someone might say the complete opposite and that will be valid too

The pacing is slow, the characters are empty as fuck, the only places we’ve ever seen so far probably are : the school, the home and maybe the bar i don’t know.
