I think you're ignoring the blatantly patriarchal and misogynistic undercurrent of the story. She isn't blameless or perfect, but she isn't a 'slut'.
She's been raised to marry someone of high status to elevate her family's standing. She recognises that her family only sees her and treats her as livestock. Hence why she's so desperate for love.
