I think he is angry because it’s going to be embarrassing, humiliating (for him) to have been planning this extravagant wedding, to put money into a house—only for it NOT to be used. Only for him to tell everyone she dumped him.

No one deserves to be slapped for stating the truth. The truth that she does not love him and does not want to marry him. His feelings being hurt (if he is hurt though it doesn’t seem like that) are valid. His use of violence is not.
