As Amy pointed out, out of all the people who fell from the cliff, why did he struggle to grab her first? This shows that he sees her as a rival and someone he admires. He was also brought to tears when she treated him coldly, but that was because she was brainwashed.
Interestingly, he hasn’t even corrected his knight friend about their fake relationship. He actually admitted to his knight friend that he has a "girlfriend". He likes her, even if he doesn't fully realize it yet!! ε=ε=(ノ≧∇≦)ノ
