I really wish the romance had been better written. Using the ex-wife just to make Jihyun realize he likes Haemi felt too sudden and unearned. The American girl being randomly in love with Jihyun was fucking bullshit. She could’ve been a strong platonic friend or business partner, but they just made her another love interest out of nowhere.

Honestly, there was no proper build-up between Haemi and Jihyun. Even during med school, there weren’t any strong hints of romantic interest. If anything, it seemed like Jihyun was still drawn to his ex-wife. FGS they even went on a date. So when he suddenly rejected her with “I’m in love with someone else,” it came out of nowhere. I thought he would turn her down because he was afraid of repeating his past mistakes, not because of a surprise love confession tf.

Personally, I would’ve preferred if the romance focused on his redemption and learning to be a better partner to his ex-wife. That would’ve felt more connected to the main plot of the story.
