I actually think this is pretty realistic for ML. He genuinely wants to keep MC to himself so he’s doing things to really throw off the ex and keep him away. At the same time MC is not uncorked so he’s trying to save her the suffering of dealing with her ex. It makes sense it’s just not as revengey as I would hope. But MC doesn’t necessarily want revenge so it makes sense.
