I will give you more details because you are really lost. ML never even remotely liked MC's friend. He only used him to get what he needed for his revenge. It was a sacrifice he brought to the meeting with the rich bastards. What they did to MC's friend made him hang himself. MC's friend was delusional since the beginning and never seen what was coming. ML planned to do the same with MC in the beginning but changed his mind because he became obsessed with him.
