You’re right that we don’t have the full context, but even if Isak’s eyes were open, that alone doesn’t prove he agreed to it, no one said it was definitely rape, but it looked like assault because he seemed lifeless, very drunk, and possibly half-asleep, and even if he drunkenly said something like “eat my ass,” that doesn’t guarantee real, conscious consent.
Saying it’s likely consensual is fair if he was aware and moving, it’s also fair for people to question it given how out of it he looked, because legally and ethically, if someone is too drunk, passed out, or unconscious, it’s almost always considered non-consensual.
i questioned it initially, but seeing how the author has handled dark topics like this before (appropriately, i’d say) and how little context we were given, it’s more likely than not it was consensual. admittedly, i could be just being hopeful. it’s also even more complex because they’re both shitfaced.

reread the end of the chapter, isak was awake and had his eyes open. he moved his legs down. while we obviously don’t know the full context, there could’ve been coercion, but they were both drunk. i hope and think it wasn’t sexual assault. i will be dropping this if so.
