Not all children look like their parents; they can resemble a grandparent or even great grandparent. They are not carbon copies of the parents. I always find it funny when in novels they have one trait from each parent (eye color, hair color), but in reality, some people have a mix of both, even skin tones. I know not all countries have a high incidence of interracial marriages and children, and it shows in the writing.
