It's more a fated lovers who transmigrated/reincarnated in a world where they were supposed to act the "villainous half brother who bullies the soon-to-be perfect ML" trope. They were supposed to follow a storyline as they are supposed to be characters in a story. But it doesn't unfold that way and later they'll jump into different novels with different tropes. The awareness of being in a novel comes later for the second ML so I get you might still found it weird.
