Most likely that he doesn't remember/have any memories but deep in his soul he might recognize him
what if sung yeon had memories of their past lives that's why he is always so anxious whenever hosik's away or he is away because the memory of hosik death and not being able to be at hosik's side to nurse him haunts him and would never want to make the same mistake again
if I look it that way his "protectiveness" might sound justified
