The people saying it's not just don't wanna admit to themselves because they enjoy the smut of the story, they don't want to be associated with the racism in the story so instead of having some balls to admit its orientalism, colorism and racist tones they ignore it and attack the people with a brain and the morals to actually call it out

It's not necessarily that, i don't think having brown/black people be the victim of slavery in a story is necessary racist but it's how it's handled and how they portray said people, they're beastly, over sexualized and takes a lot of inspiration for the culture from orientalism and orientalist stereotypes
