The impression I got was that the family (mainly the father and eldest stepbrother) just wanted someone to blame and she was the perfect target. So the math is “math-ing” for me.
The story has it that the wife was going to get a divorce after realizing her “loyal and beloved” husband cheated on her. The woman knew that Olivia was innocent, but she still couldn’t bear being around her at some point the more she thought about the infidelity. So, because she left the home and died in an accident while trying to get a divorce, her death was blamed on the weakest link.
I’m not surprised Estella turned on Olivia. She was kept out of the loop and in the dark by everyone, so of course when someone of authority told her a twisted version of the “truth” that everyone believes… Well, you get the picture.
For someone like Olivia to be so verbally, mentally, and emotionally abused, it’s very hard for her to recognize that she could escape it. It’s like an animal living in a cage for ten years without being allowed to step outside. The animal, like Olivia, is scared by the mere concept of just leaving the cage and what might be the consequences of making an attempt at doing so.

——-spoiler about dad ——-
He didn’t cheat. He was raped. The wife was leaving prob cuz she didn’t like the way the dad treated mc.
Hate the dad he’s just taking his trauma out on her and using her. But it’s important to recognize that he didn’t cheat, for what that’s worth.
Wanna make sure we hate the dad for the right reasons lol.

I did read the spoiler, but I wasn’t sure if it was accurate at all (because sometimes spoilers have misinterpreted information in them). And, in reality, I was just stating it from the wife’s point of view. To her, her husband cheated (and he never told her the truth). I understand trauma can’t be shared so easily, but if your life is falling apart because you can’t force yourself to speak up and say what really happened, that is totally on you.
Other than that, I agree with you. What he’s done to brainwash the family into hating Olivia is just awful. What he has said to her and how he has treated her over the years can liken him to some of the worst trashy fathers in these kinds of stories. Still, he did make sure she was fed and had nice clothes… That’s better than some of these bad family stories.
The math ain’t mathing. What was a scrawny (practically and orphan) kid would be able to do. I hate this family. I genuinely had hoped that the little sister would be able to reason with everything. That she wouldn’t be so naive as to be swayed by the flies around her. But I guess not. Does she not know how the people in the house treat her? I’m done bro…
