She didn't chose to be dumb. She chose to be something worse, she chose arrogant. Humility is what made the leads fall for her, the people support her and therefore gave her the position she had now. She chose to be arrogant and chose to believe she knew everything. She refused to listen to anyone else and now she's lost almost everything, but still she refuses to reflect and be humble again.
