honestly I get u but also I have to slightly disagree in that it's more complicated than a "simply friends" type of ordeal-- in that same restaurant scene, xiao asked him that bc she's had a crush on him since way back, and she had that whole thing with calling jian yi "a disgusting gay" () so that's why she jumps to asking if it's jian yi. after xixi ostensibly says that it's "complicated," not being able to label his feelings as love, xiao just recognizes that what she wants from xixi - his devotion and commitment - is already jian yi's anyway, even if he himself does not word it as straightforwardly as that. he is, after all, turning her down not because he doesn't like her, but because he has jian yi and jian yi would undoubtedly be more important to him.
that scene happens pretty soon after jian yi's confession, so it stands to reason that xixi wouldn't jump to an "i like him/i DONT like him" (romantically). as he himself said, he probably feels a very wide range of things about both jian yi and his confession... but we can see as the story goes on that this confusion might have been very much elucidated. xixi has grown into jian yi's PDA as time went by – not just "accepting" it but being comfortable and starting it himself at times. personally, I fully believe he has come to realize what his feelings for jian yi mean, but that he is much more comfortable with their relationship as it stands and would rather not risk actually dating him and letting things be messy (I mean, just look at he tian and mo, they are downright a wreck ).
there's also the fact that jian yi going off to god-knows-where for 3+ years might've, uh, impacted how xixi feels and any decisions of what to do with his feelings. if we still take the first chapters as gospel (they haven't been rectified yet so it's the best we can do ig) xixi was leagues more emotionally constipated than what you see him at the last chapters of middle school, so being apart from jian yi changed a lot to him. he has been much better in the christmas specials since way back, and currently it seems we're keeping up on that trend (there's a bit of conflict in knowing whether the specials are previous to the current chapters or not but alas, not the most important rn), so it might be safe to say they've gone back to their previous closeness. maybe they're even dating! who knows. old xian loves not telling us shit.
that was a bit of an extrapolation (i doubt they're dating) but just overall, from our current progress, i think it's fair to say he does love jian yi, but that he doesn't plan on ever doing anything about it. it does stand to reason, however, that they are kind of stagnated rn because the focus has heavily shifted onto tianshan. as of now the future looks very bleak on whether or not they'll ever move past friendship, so i do understand your point... but i also do believe xixi likes jian yi.
use your brain a little, if old xian intended to show their love ''this way'' she wouldn't have given them official fanarts as couples. there are scenes where xixi blushes shyly around him. there are moments (that christmas ch) where he got jealous of the girl for confessing to jian yi.

ive been a fan of old xian for years and i know the official art you're talking about however i disagree. they're more shown being "close" rather than as a couple. i also believe that in the chapter you're referring to, there was no obvious sign that xixi was jealous of jian yi. he blushes around jian yi when jian yi is doing something crazy like getting naked, or trying to kiss him and i don't think that just because of this, he has feelings for jian yi. i believe he loves him but in the same way as mo and he tian love each other as i stated previously.
omggg you're so right. i love your thoughts on this and i agree with you but i also still think they're relationship is complicated but i dont think they're going to be like, a couple. i doubt there will be any progress with them in the future ykwim?
I get you, but I also feel so bad... it's so unfair that tianshan gets (basically) wedding rings but our og babies are stuck just-- friendzoning eachother, somehow even if they never outright become lovers, my hope is that we at least have xixi imply his feelings to some extent. jian yi deserves some appreciation. I don't mind (well, I do mind... but after investing 10 years into this I'll take any crumbs I can) if it ends up with them maybe keeping the distance of friends for the sake of it being more comfortable to them, but I hope at the *very least* jian yi gets to know full well that xixi is devoted to him in one way or another. at least they'll be honest with eachother then
I *am* kinda scared of the current direction of things tho. it really looks like xixi and jian yi are outsiders in their own manhua... so maybe my hopes are in vain. rip.
yess omg and i love your thought process on this. xixi is very devoted to jian yi and i couldn't find the words to describe that. i love them even if they're just yknow whatever they are. i wish they could get a little progress rather than the small chapters of barely any progress they've been getting. i wish old xian would go back to the original timeline all ready :<

Yup! It 100% happened. He didn't write their names tho, he drew a mini-him and Jian Yi with water on a wall. I turned that image into my phone's background for quite some time lol
But iirc he didn't get flustered, he just did it then soon afterwards got called to leave (they were cleaning the gym and had just finished it)
One other noteworthy thing about that scene is that xixi was cleaning off a couple's scribbled drawing of the same thing (inferring the couple had broken up) so that's probably one more point on the tab of "XiXi doesn't want to date so that things don't get messier and they don't part"

so, i don't think that jianxi is getting any more progress. my reasoning is this. do you guys remember that chapter where jian yi kissed xixi after accidently getting knocked into him? after that, jian told xixi to act like nothing happened and to go back to being friends and to think nothing of it when they hug and stuff. so i think that after this moment, their progress as a "couple" stopped. after this though, jian yi told xixi about his feelings and xixi didn't accept them, but it was like "i like you too" either because all he said was "i know" and kissed him on the head. so it wasn't a rejection, but it was like a promise, that's how i see it at least. and there was a time after that where jian yi, xixi, and xiao were having lunch together and xiao asked xixi if he liked someone else, and then asked if it was jian yi and xixi only said smth like "he's been the closest to me since we were kids" but i don't think xixi has feelings for jian yi. so after all that, i believe that xixi is well aware that jian yi loves him and i don't think that jian yi's feelings for xixi have changed at all. i think that xixi loves jian yi, but not in a romantic way. as sad as this makes me, i believe that this is how their love for each other is shown while he tian and moguans are shown differently.
