I agree with your take. I can see what you mean. I like their bickering and how they go back and forth sometimes on normal chapters. I've always like when characters have that dynamic.
If lister wasn't given that treasonous bg where he hurt sylhan and maybe if he wasn't so goddamn abusive he could've been a good ml. As you can see tho in these type of plot there can only be one "good" guy for the MC and there's no room for any other decent character.
I personally like listers design. I like the black hair green eyes, and how similar in age he actually looks to sylhan. They're both young looking. While as gjord looks so goddamn old especially in this chapter.
I also can't stand that he's so old looking while the author draws mc with baby incisors and always looks so baby childlike especially in their sex scenes it's kinda icky ngl

i feel like lister could be good after some kind of redemption. his behavior is awful and cruel, but i feel like deep down he is a better person than that...but he is acting out on his childish tempers, almost like pulling the pigtails of the girl he has a crush on but way worse. at the end of the day he wants sylhan's attention and wants him to beg for his help and feel desired by him, but it all gets twisted when he's rejected.
i also wish lister wasn't so shitty bc i feel like there are cute sides to him but it gets overshadowed by his shittyness. at this stage though i can't really support him w mc but i would like to see him become better
a grown ass man who can make decisions for himself and chooses to actively abuse someone and sexually assault them can not be a good person deep down... guys WHY are we praying for his redemption we should be praying for gjord to kill him and be done with it
I get what you’re saying, cuz if he was introduced as the main ML people would probably all love him lol but gjord is just MILES better than him. He worships the ground the MC walks on and it’s a bitch to everyone else, I love him too much to ever like Lester
TLDR: I get what you mean, he had sm potential but dang he is such a manchild and an abuser to Sylhan. The amount of times he can't handle rejection and forcing MC to bow to him perfectly encapsulates on how much of an insecure fuck he is. He only likes the feeling of control over Sylhan.
His obsession over Sylhan like he is an object that he owns and can do whatever he likes (as shown when he SA'd Sylhan just to check if someone already have their way on him). He wants Sylhan to willingly bow to him that's why he has been tormenting Sylhan and acted like he gave Sylhan a favor when he does bare minimum.
There are times Lister had his moments but I think that's the duality of him. Like how abusers can be abusive to their own family but a great person to their friends.
I think he's also the perfect example of a "nice guy" he's only nice because he expects that behavior to be rewarded but once you reject him, his little ego gets hurt and can't handle rejection coupled with his lack of emotional regulation which leads to abusive tendencies.
Lister has the potential and I get the vision. I think one of the reasons he seems likable sometimes because the artist sometimes draw his expressions a bit too lighthearted for a character that was meant to be problematic.
perfectly said. if i may add onto this, and this might js be me, but I think the reason why he may seem 'likeable' to some is because he's literally the same as the other male leads in some of the most popular bls. the mls from low tide in twilight, jinx, roses and champagne are almost on the same level as him, yet they get their redemptions and so people root for them. i think that has disillusioned everyone to the point where people want lister to get a redemption, or to become better, even though he is obviously written to be an antagonist here. you'll never see anyone say they want lister's sister to redeem herself, even though shes as bad as her brother (probably). yet people will root for the abusive sexual assaulter because that's been the norm for so long. its sad that we finally get to see an abusive character that isn't glorified or redeemed (so far) and yet people still find points to like about him. anyway, that's just my opinion on this.
i think its giving credit to the author for being able to make multifaceted characters, both protagonist and antagonist, where you can see both the good and the bad in them. lister would be much more boring of a character if he was cardboard cutout evil guy. its more distressing imo that we can sort of understand his psyche and see times where he seems more innocent. if we looked at certain characters like gjord from other charas perspectives i'm sure he would not seem so heroic during this political strife xD i say all this but i love gjord! i just don't think the characters are so black and white
maybe you're right abt lister being similar to other mls. there's a reason the 'scum gong' trope exists, people love a groveling and wife chasing arc lol
I've said this before and I will say it again, I think that Lester (i think thats his name) and Mc would probably be such a cute couple if only Lester isn't so shitty.
