You're really gonna forget, that even for a while, he wanted her to be miserable and suffering right? Circumstances be irregardless. He's in guilt mode because he blamed and tried to take it out on her before pursuing the truth.
A very human response to someone that hurt you! I wouldn’t recommend it but a very human response. After all she said she killed his mother and hurt him many times. I mean it makes sense. (Though I don’t want her to suffer either)
