In the beginning I was hoping that Rosalind let her body be overtaken by a shadow to keep herself alive or sth… I quickly realized that’s not the case and since then I was conflicted whether to keep reading it cause “shadow” seemed like a weird main character. I kept going because everyone in the comments seemed to love it and no one complained about MC so I assumed she gets accustomed to her body and more human as the story progresses …but nope.
I don’t dislike her character but I just really dislike her as a MC. She acts like a child or a dimwit, seems to barely express any thoughts, motivations, emotions. Her only personality traits so far are “omg food!!”, “doing something funny/cute that’s not socially acceptable” and “protecc!”. She really DOES act and kinda like a 3-5 years old when interacting with other characters. Which is cute, I love her antics, laugh out loud from time to time, I really enjoy her interactions with her brother and that knight friend… BUT I just can’t see her as a romantic interest, that’s the bottom line. AND I don’t find her relatable or enjoyable as a main character whose story I’m supposed to follow and cheer for. Simply because she feels cartoonish and unserious compared to other characters. There are some stories in which an outwardly being has to fend for themselves in the human world that pull this concept off in a bearable and interesting way. But I just can’t stress it enough, she’s neither emotionally nor mentally intelligent enough for me to see her as a serious character.
Which is a pity, I was really hoping for a reverse gender roles story with a damsel in distress ML and powerful knight FL.
