Out of the many manhwas I read, I only have a select few that i consider to be the best of the best — 27 to be exact. It’s not the fact that I’m picky or that I have high standards, for me the few manhwas that I think are top tier are manhwas that effortlessly evoke emotions out of me. “When did men stop wearing high heels” isn’t a manhwa that makes its angsty scenes expected within the tags or the summary, it’s seen as a comedy and or a light hearted read at first. Come on, a man having a fetish for high heels??? Before reading you wouldn’t expect that this manhwa touches on so many deep struggles within society
In the manhwa there are internal conflicts within each character that usually follow the theme of being “different” and I think how the author chooses to tackle those struggles is so beautiful & realistic. Instead of making the people around them understanding & going through a change of heart, it’s the character that changes which I think is so heartwarming .. ( ̄▽ ̄) For the world not to change but the character to gain a sense of “bravery” and stay true to one’s self is such an important lesson and it was written so well in this manhwa.. I struggle to read manhwas w/ over 100 chapters but I wish “When did men stop wearing high heels” had a thousand.
I really enjoy the character dynamic between the two MCs (perv & boss) they’re able to understand & accept eachother for their differences and build a bond which is so important for the both of them since they each struggled w/ having that sense of community. I have so much more to say but I think my main takeaway from this was it’s okay to be different, which in the end made me really emotional.
