Coming from a big weirdo (my list), I definitely think that it doesn’t need to have graphic rape to learn how the character is feeling or felt afterwards, or learning about the character in general. I can learn about the character in different scenarios besides rape.
Like in aesthetics of unpleasantness, the guy who got raped (bottom), there was little to no graphic scenes of the rape but it was there still and we saw and felt.
I do agree with you that it’s the author’s choice and people don’t need to read it. And yes, I also think the author isn’t romanticising it. If anything, they’re showing the power dynamic between the old fart and him—clearly he can’t disobey for some reason.
Nobody can blame author if the viewer discretion has been shown. It’s a choice to read. I acknowledge that it can be distressing still. Best thing you can do is drop the story, but morbid curiosity is everyone’s miserable companion.
I'm gonna stick it out for the dynamic and the art.
I'm probably just gonna skim real fast thru the panels that are uncomfortable. Just so i barely get the gist of whats going on.
Frankly, I'm against censorship. I understand graphic rape makes people uncomfortable and people would prefer it to be implied. But having it be graphic and explicit is apparently this author/artist's choice. And there's things we can learn about the character thru it. I acknowledge there's an argument for fetishisation/romanticisation of rape here. But idt that's the case, author is setting it up to be a bad thing and even a point of conflict between the mc and ml.
If it's triggering, be warned. But that's the whole point of trigger warnings, it's so u can fully intentionally proceed or choose to skip and drop if you want to.
