I don’t think he ever knew, because every time they appeared together, he seemed completely uninterested in whatever she was doing. There was never a moment where he asked, “how was your work?” — not even a mention that he knew what she did in those jobs. The only thing he seemed to know was that she worked in several places, but what she actually did there, or whether it was hard or not, didn’t matter to him at all.
