I think the idea is he’d probably have to fight the bear to the death to get him to leave which he wants to avoid since he knows it would upset the female lead so he’s going out of his way to try and further discourage the bear by showing he’s not even needed for the menial job he has. On the flip side the fox is weak and temporary he doesn’t have the right to stay under beastman law and can be easily overpowered and chased off
