Emiliano, a man of contradictions

Why a novel reader might not like Emiliano. One of those reasons can be because he is a man who says one thing and does another. The manhwa hasn’t shown everything about him and might not show everything about him. For instance, he didn’t actually have to die in front of Ines. He agreed with Carcel to run away and Carcel was supposed to bring the child to him later by retrieving him from Ines, but Emiliano overthrew the plan and ran to Ines in a very dangerous situation and ended up getting shot and leaving Ines in an even more terrible situation. It’s not like he didn’t know soldiers were everywhere looking for them. That’s why Carcel was helping him to save his life for Ines’s sake.

Another thing is, he kept saying all these stupid things to Carcel about how Carcel is more suited to Ines because he’s a nobleman who can take care of Ines. Fine, Carcel just listens to him. But after saying all these things to Carcel and arranging with Carcel to save the child, he still stupidly ran back to Ines in that dangerous situation and got killed in front of her. That’s why whenever he brings up the topic to this current Carcel, Carcel gets an angry look on his face. Carcel is always about protecting Ines first and foremost. He only helped Emiliano because he didn’t want Ines to lose anything.

Another issue is the fact that he asked Anastasio for memories in this current life so that he can stay away from Ines and not hurt her. What did he do with those memories when he finally began to get them? He deliberately left the fake green pendant in the store window for Ines to recognize while thinking Ines was living fine and she will seek him out (Carcel’s speculation) when in reality, Ines was suffering mentally alone over the guilt of the previous timeline. If he didn’t have intentions, why did he leave the pendant there and made it not for sale? Not to mention the pendant literally triggered Ines and she almost died. If Carcel hadn’t walked in that moment, Ines would’ve died.

He also knew Ines was set to marry a noble whom in the previous life he said would take better care of Ines. So why was he violating his wish to stay away from Ines by leaving a pendant to trigger her while knowing she had memories of the previous life. The only reason he was stopped in his tracks is because Anastasio showed him the vision of Ines killing their child and then herself. Now he realizes he and Ines will never be able to stand each other if they were ever to meet. Keep in mind that Ines is adamant about never meeting him so that she won’t ruin his life and he can’t ruin hers.

Also important is the fact that Carcel is her husband. He is a man that would accept anything for Ines. Imagine if it was Leonardo, Dante or Enrique. How would Ines explain this situation to any other husband especially when Oscar begins to move to try to wreck Ines’s marriage using evidence that Emiliano created in this timeline that can implicate Ines.

In the end, Emiliano is a good guy but he has an incredibly knack for creating problems unintentionally for others. Like the pendant and in the future, the paintings.

Ohhh this was very intriguing! It’s like he has her best wishes at heart but at the same time his own selfishness and wanting her leads to the contradictions of his intent vs his actions!! That makes so much more sense, thank you for this detailed comment omg!

Just from reading this, I'm also not liking him. Even before reading this, from a manhwa reader POV, I find him kinda off. Idk

This is pretty much it. That’s why it’s hard to notice his contradictions unless one review all his actions vs his speech because he is a good person and ‘acts’ humble but on review of his actions, he isn’t really humble when it comes to his expectation of Ines’s love? He deliberately tried to reconnect with her for a reason not knowing she was living in hell because of the memories and guilt of the previous life.

Another novel reader brought up an issue they had with Emiliano but I really couldn’t agree with her. She was upset that Emiliano got Ines pregnant when Ines wasn’t well because she was having nightmares and sleepwalking because of the memories of her life with Oscar. I think if the couple decided to have a child, that’s fine. I don’t blame him.
