There are spoilers saying that the duke was drugged and then fL' s mother raped her. However, fL's mother was being threatened that is why she had to do it.
Why is that fL is at fault at their misfortune, in fact it was the duke who is at fault here. If he did not wonder around and spreading his seed, then, there is no illegitimate to begin with.
