Chaewoo was told by Kiseok that Lee Yeon played a huge part in his mother’s death and was sent to Hwaido to find her. He redirects his anger to a man and is interrupted by a woman. He catches her and quickly realizes who she is and is taken aback. Before he could decide what to do with her he is hit repeatedly in the head by the man he attempted to bury.


Full rundown:
Chaewoo’s mother was actually his kidnapper and formerly Kwon Kiseok’s (the older brother) music teacher, her name is Yoon Jooha. She kidnapped him at age 3 and took him to Austria and raised him as her own. They’re found out and flee into the mountains in Hwaido Island when Chaewoo is 10.
In Hwaido, Chaewoo wasn’t allowed to leave the house bcs it was too risky so he mostly spent his time playing the cello everyday for a pretty girl sitting under a tree. Unfortunately the Kwon guards find them again and Chaewoo attempts to save his mother by telling her to go down the hill where the pretty girl lives and ask for her to hide her. So she does and Chaewoo is taken back to the Kwon residence.
About a month passes by and Chaewoo’s mom is inside the pretty girls residence, her name is Lee Yeon. Lee Yeon hid her from the men chasing after her but Jooha never spoke or rarely ate due to depression. One day Jooha pulls out a missing persons poster of herself with a huge sum of money as a reward and shows it to Lee Yeon and demands she call the phone number to tell them where she is. Lee Yeon is hesitant but Jooha reassures her and tells her she just wants to see her son again. Lee Yeon calls but refuses the money, the money shows up in her account anyways (Kiseok had wired the money in).
Kiseok tells a 13 year old Chaewoo that his “mother” had died from a car accident. Chaewoo gets really depressed and gives up the cello (his mother has taught him how to play). He enters the Kwon family business and becomes addicted to violence. Years later, Chaewoo finds out Kiseok had lied to him about how his mother actually died. Kiseok had kept her captive inside a basement just under Chaewoo’s childhood bedroom. Kiseok told Jooha he would feed her each time Chaewoo played the cello, unfortunately this was around the time he had given up the instrument so she starved to death. Chaewoo points a gun at Kiseok but Kiseok immediately shifts the blame to a girl named Lee Yeon. He tells Chaewoo she had sold his mother back to the Kwons for the cash reward and sends Chaewoo to Hwaido island to find her.
In the woods, Chaewoo redirects his anger to another Kwon worker and attempts to bury him. He is found out and chases after a woman. He chokes her with a cello wire and looks at her face. He realizes who she is and is taken aback but before he could decide what to do with her he is hit in the head repeatedly by the man he attempted to bury.

Ok but why the fuck did she even kidnap him in the first place?

She wanted revenge.
At age 10 she was experimented on by a Pharmaceutical Company. She was able to flee and was hired later as a music teacher for Kwon KiSeok. She eventually found out the Kwon’s were behind the experiments and decided to kidnap the youngest member of the Kwon’s by smuggling him inside a cello case and fleeing to Austria. She couldn’t bring herself to harm the 3 year old as she grew attached to him maternally and raised him with love. She taught him how to play the cello and he grew to be slightly famous for his talent in playing the cello. Unfortunately that’s how they were found out causing them to flee again and land in Hwaido.

In my opinion I’m glad she kidnapped him. She gave him the chance to experience a nice and normal childhood even if it didn’t last long. If he had grown with the Kwon’s he would have turned out way worse than Kiseok. Even the other two oldest brothers hate it there.
