So tell me if I'm wrong here but, Guwon, wanting to give a surprise gift to Jinwoo to make him happy, lets him go into the decimated town he found him in and lets him find the battered corpse of his dead father. And he decided that showing him is father's corpse would be a great surprise present so that he can uncover what happened to his father in a way that he NOT upset.
