MY THEORIES ON WHY THIS MANHWA IS TITLED "HOUNDS OF SISYPHUS".

SO, i'll start off with explaining who "sisyphus" is in greek mythology. sisyphus is a king punished by the gods for his deceitfulness to eternally roll a boulder uphill, only for it to fall each time.
my 1st theory is giwon is sisyphus's earth reincarnation. in ch24, "person" being the only bolded word when he confessed to jinwo hints he’s not human and neither are his hounds. AND, in ch0, he walked out of a collapsed building looking completely fine. NO regular human could survive that.

there is also a phrase associated with sisyphus which i found very interesting, "a sispyhean task". it is a metaphor for any task that is incredibly difficult and requires constant effort, but is pointless in the end. my 2nd theory is that the town he independently established is that task—he needs to learn perfection isn't unachievable. his one-sided love for jinwo could also be another one of his tasks — he has to accept that for a fact jinwo can’t love him back.

now i will explain who the hounds i think really are. in greek mythology, hounds represent unwavering loyalty and guardianship.

the hounds introduced in ch23, are said to protect giwon with blind loyalty—like he’s seriously a KING they see as their GOD, which leads me to believe that they are his worshippers. this fits into the narrative that he is actually sisyphus reincarnated.

in conclusion, if giwon is actually sisyphus reincarnated on earth, he may have also triggered the apocalypse which coincidentally based on greek mythology is a transformation or ending of an age which also brought his hounds with him.

Yay! Another person getting on board with the mythology of Sisyphus!

Just a little extra fyi, a "Sisyphean Task" harks back to book written by Albert Camus "The Myth of Sisyphus", which explains in depth his punishment of pushing a giant boulder up an enormous hill for all eternity (which they reference a lot in the beginning of this manhwa). It's all intertwined, and The Hounds are most likely denizens of the underworld that followed Sisyphus (Guwon) back up to the "real" world to wreak havoc. If you're interested, I suggest reading The Myth of Sisyphus, it's a really great read. Albert Camus was an exceptional thinker, and his writing on this subject is really interesting!

Keep it up, you're doing a great job! ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶
