Yes it's cringe. Yes it's beautiful. Two things can be true

The subverse stuff is really funny to me in concept bc... Huh? But it honestly works way better in practice bc as soon as they're actually doing their thing I'm all tee-hee-heeing. I'm obsessed with them.
Al is one of the greenest flags (I don't use that lightly) like he's SUCH a giant sweetheart and tries not to complain because he knows he's blessed and he does so much to try to make everyone around him feel safe </3 I love him so much.

Al losing his shit and going off on Yuri was fire because I LOVE an extremely calm character getting possessive. And then it got extremely sweet with Yuri telling Al to snap out of it and take care of Zen, but I snap back to reality as he says "Isn't he your fucking sub?!?" Lmao like that's such a good moment but that sentence is so funny to me like so unserious yet simultaneously a super sweet sentiment.

I just love how mutually beneficial and warm their relationship is. They're both really sweet and caring and Zen is a little bit stupid but that is literally his character introduction in chapter 1 like you need to know two things about him. His name is Zen. He's a little stupid. Awesome. He's insanely adorable.

Every time Al smiles or laughs or blushes or wags his tail an angel gets its wings. He's so cute.

I love it

Also! I love that the bureau's whole thing is taking care of people. A dom abuses their power? The bureau is there. Old people or new citizens need help? They're there. They're just doing good service and I love that so much

However you look at it something like subverse is pretty probable to evolve (we have bdsm in this universe also strict hierarchies sometimes, so it's just like our world but Dom/sub thing is dialed up), omegaverse is much more popular even tho it's super improbable

I mean, the way dom/sub works though is very much not a thing since stuff like the glare and sub drop and all the physiological responses provoked by commands are unrealistic. Pheromones do exist, so I honestly think there could be some argument that that is more probable even if the way pheromones work irl is minimal. Lots of animals have hermaphroditic traits and unique reproductive abilities, it's just being applied to humans in ABO in a way that goes beyond things like being intersex that humans actually experience.

I think subverse is funny to me because it's taking a role people take on in their sexual life and making it a biological identity/magical force and that feels silly. It's like if twink became a gender and people were split into like... Twinks and Bears in the Prideverse, but it was biological and not just societal/personal.
Humans aren't ever alphas or omegas so it's easier for me to suspend my disbelief because there isn't a real life equivalent. Still, both verses could be argued to be more realistic or unrealistic than the other and both sides have merit lol

Sub drop and sub space are a real thing. Sub glare is fantasy but I rarely see it (and only in manga). Sexual preferences are determined by biology bruh. And it's not far fetched idea that all humans could have nervous system and psyche that requires submission or dominance.
Terms like "Bear" or "Twink" are also based on biology - on the way one's body looks so people can be decided to Bears and Twinks and in this "prideverse" those labels would just be more significant

Even if they're a real thing, it's not to the degree it is in subverse bc like you said, these AUs just make things more significant. And sure, sexual preferences can be fundamental for people but obviously when I was saying biological I meant to the degree in which this treats it as a literal sub-gender.
Idk, I think I made my point when I said both arguments have merit for whichever position you take.
