I think I like it because having a second male lead makes me see who the first male lead really is. Like is he the jealous type who pulls away when someone else shows interest, or is he confident and secure, knowing the female lead won’t fall for the second guy. I also like that the second male lead usually ends up bringing the main couple closer together. So basically, second ML = development. It might sound absurd, but without a 2nd lead I personally feel it a bit boring. Of course, there are mangas that do a great job even without a second ML, but I can’t help loving the angst that comes with it.
That said, I understand why some people disagree, especially when the second male lead knows the female lead is already in a relationship. In that case, I get why people would feel like there shouldn't be a 2nd lead. But usually in the stories I’ve read, the second ML either doesn’t know she’s taken or the main couple isn’t official yet, which is why I agree with those who dislike his presence. The reason I said what I said is just for those not liking a 2nd ml in stories . I also have standards that I don't appreciate in 2nd male leads lol.
chat your gonna hate me but I lowkey like when authors introduce a 2nd male lead (=・ω・=)
